Travel Insurance – do I need insurance for a holiday in the UK?

Last week my wife and I booked a holiday in two centres in the Scottish Isles. 7 days on the Isle of Skye then 7 more days on the Isle of Lewis by ferry to Steornabhagh. Wonderful scenery lots of walks and peaceful crowds.

You might surprise me when my local travel agent thinks I want to pay an extra £27.50 for travel insurance. Not your Nellie Shannes monster I thought. Who needs travel insurance for a holiday in the UK? The NHS is free and in an emergency my son can drive us home.

Later in the relaxed setting of my living room I began to think……….

Holiday misfortunes don’t just happen abroad. So I put on a pessimistic hat and wrote down the risks:
